Hot Rodders DVD

Here's the best film record of pioneer rodders & racers to come to HRN's attention in some time.  Never-before-seen, well-preserved footage documents some of the earliest action at Muroc dry lake, the Bonneville salt flats & historic southern-California drag strips such as Paradise Mesa, Carlsbad & San Diego Raceway.  A real bonus is recent interviews with some of the stars of this footage, including low-profile industry-pioneer Bruce Crower.  Unlike too many amateur videos, "Hot Rodders" is enhanced by good editing & excellent narration, with accurate descriptions of race cars.  Sure to surprise & amaze your bench-racing buddies this winter!

The Hot Rod Story DVD

No collection is complete without the very first one: "The Hot Rod Story."  This version of Alex Xydias' classic motion picture professionally documents hot rodding's first four decades, beginning with 1930s' dry-lakes action.  Enjoy rare color coverage of the '55 NHRA Nationals; early March Meets; Mickey Thompson's 406-mph Bonneville pass; the first Super Stockers; L.A. Roadster Club run, etc.   Professionally filmed & narrated.

of the same name.  Some of the earliest dirt track

Lions Drag Strip, Vol. 1 DVD

If you've ever wondered why Lions Associated Drag Strip is so often remembered as the ultimate race place, here's the story of how people like manager Mickey Thompson made it that way.  Former-track-photographer Don Gillespie does "The Beach" justice in this amazing documentary.  The story begins even before the track's Oct. 9, 1955 opening day.  Recent interviews are combined with old, black & white TV-news coverage. Several segments of never-before-seen film document virtually every part of the famed facility.

Lions Drag Strip, Vol. 2 DVD

We couldn't see how documentary-filmmaker Don Gillespie could possibly follow up his first Lions DVD -- until a few minutes into this second edition, which has the advantage of being set in "the Golden Age of drag racing." Picking up where Part One left off, nitromethane is just returning to Lions in 1962 as the nationwide Fuel Ban collapses.  By the end of 1966, where this video ends, Hart was hosting the biggest and best weekly Top Fuel, Top Gas, Funny Car, Fuel Altered and Supercharged Gasser shows in the world.

Lions Drag Strip, Vol. 3 DVD

Better grab the Kleenex box before you sit down with this one. Prepare to shed some tears of joy and laughter as "The Beach" hits it peak with early Funny Car meets.  Among the surprises in-between is the first film footage we've ever seen of the 1970 transmission explosion that severed Big Daddy's foot (courtesy of a fan in the stands).  Saddest of all, this is the final volume of a nearly-six-hour series that sets a new standard for drag-strip documentaries.

Return To Half Moon Bay DVD

Located along the California Coast about 20 miles south of San Francisco lies the historic Half Moon Bay Dragstrip.   All of the big name drag racers of the late '50s to the late '60s competed there before thousands of enthusiastic fans.  The track closed around 1968 and it was not until October 29, 1994 did the track re-open for "Sound Tests" of mild to hot drag racing machinery for environmental impact studies.  The question is: Do we "blot out" Drag Racing to save the earth or do we let Earth take care of itself and save our youth and human spirit?

Seven Second Love Affair DVD

Lions Drag Strip at the peak of drag racing's "Golden Age" is the backdrop for this legendary Robert Abel documentary about the record-holding Adams, Wayre & Stewart Top Fuel team's trials and tribulations in 1965. Never released to theatres and previously unavailable on video (except as poor-quality bootlegs), this DVD was made from a master print by Les Blank, the original cinematographer.  Thus, the picture & sound are top-notch — including multiple-camera footage of Rick Stewart's wicked tumble through the shutdown area at Lions.

Tales Of The Rat Fink DVD

The tribute to Ed "Big Daddy" Roth will appeal to anyone

who recalls the glory days of hot rods and custom cars.

Roth pioneered customizing in the late '50s, the inventor of

Rat Fink, the "anti-Mickey Mouse" adopted as the drooling mascot of rodders, surfers, model-building hobbyists and

assorted misfits throughout the '60s. Roth's best-known custom cars--The Outlaw, The Beatnik Bandit, Mysterion and others--remain timeless classics of southern California's custom-car culture, and they're all shown here on dazzling display.

The Way It REALLY Was DVD

[The Rough Cut]

Imagine being invited to watch the "home movies"of

straight-line pioneers such as Don Long, Al Teague & Pete

Millar, to name just three of the many racers who allowed their 8mm film from the 1950s, '60s and '70s to be transferred to DVD for this incredible compilation.  Racing action & pit close-ups

from legendary California drag strips [Long Beach, Santa Ana, Riverside, Pomona, Fontana, Saugus, Fremont, Famoso].

Rebel Beat DVD

The first documentary to capture LA's oldest underground music scene:  LA Rockabilly. LA Rockabilly is more than just a music scene. Today it's part of the growing "low brow kustom culture" movement that includes hot rod and custom car clubs, tattoo art, pinup modeling and burlesque.  This documentary uses the 50-year story of LA rockabilly to showcase an unlikely cast of rebel cohorts who intersects in a parallel universe, the Sunset Strip.
